May 13, 2005, Barrie, Army, Navy, Air

Big Band Dance, George Jonescu of AM740 MC'd a very successful evening for
the dancers that came from all over southern Ontario to dance to the very
beautiful Swing Shift 18 pc Big band, the band and the dancers had a smooth,
silky tiled floor to dance on. All the old tunes from the 40s and 50s were
played , The Band was constantly applauded. The dance floor was never over
crowded even though they had a sell out crowd. A good range of ages was
represented by the dancers. Some of the younger crowd danced an old lindy step
to the many swing tunes played. ( lindy was a 1920s to 1940s dance style ). A
few of the ladies had long gowns with the majority wearing comfortable dance
clothes. Most men wore jackets into the dance with some of them removing them
later in the evening. The bands tempos played reminded me of the days when you
would see many young dancers dressed in zoot suits dancing to swing. There was
great dancing which was fun to watch. Jim John announced the bands itinerary and
Jan Laurie sang beautifully to some of those memorable tunes from days of old
that we all love to hear. We met some very warm and friendly people at this
dance. This was a wonderful experience to add to
our memory banks. Don't miss out on the next dance. Make your reservations early
as they limit the number of persons that can be accommodated on a dance floor.
Another big band dance is being planned for this fall in Barrie. Look for the
listings on Dancinglist .com sometime in October or November or contact Wanda at
her email address: Collison@sympatico.ca
