June 26, 2004, The Swing Shift Big Band dance was a real hit last
night. It was very well attended. The band was excellent except for a couple of
tunes which were rumbas where the beat was not distinct. As a result dancers
were doing cha chas, sambas ,foxtrots etc. to the rumba. I presume that that was
either a failure of the audio system not picking up the beats or the drummer
going to sleep.?? Only they will know. Otherwise everyone enjoyed the dance. And
of course the recordings played for the "International" dancers during the bands
breaks were very welcome as well. .
Free coffee and very beautiful deserts were also provided for the dancers. All
in all my friends and I enjoyed a beautiful evening of dancing. Can't wait
till the next dance put on by Ballroom in the City at the
Estonian House.Ballroom.

October 29,2004, Toronto (SE), Estonian
House, Swing Shift Big
Band, Diaeter Hessel and Colleen Clancy certainly know how to please a
dancing crowd. The band played exactly what ballroom dancers wanted. A good mix
of all of the most danceable music they wanted. I heard no complaints at all
from any of the dancers I spoke to. There was a very positive response with
continuous smiles from everyone. It was as though every piece of music was
chosen individually by the hosts. Even a conga was played. The large ballroom
floor was crowded with the best attendance of any of the dances they have had,
yet room to move. The dancers moved well to not clog up any section of the floor
during the dances. Those that wanted to do there special moves stayed in the
center. Argentine Tangos, Cha Chas, Rumbas, you name it. They played it.
Including Quick steps and beautiful International Fox Trots. Then at every
intermission Dieter played recorded music of the highest quality.
A very large assortment of all kinds of fancy deserts, fruits and vegetables
were put out for there guests at 9pm. along with free coffee, tea and water.
What more could you ask for . It was a beautiful evening. And, we made some new
friends as well. Glenda and I are looking forward to visiting their dance again.
It was the best.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________February 12, 2005, 2nd Visit to Estonian House,
We decided to visit this location again when they had DJ music played by Dieter
Hessel and Colleen Clancey . Whether you are a International or a Social
Dancer, the music they played was of a quality that you would not find in
most locations. The sound system they have is the very best. The music I
am sure was chosen individually by them rather than just taking anything out of
a list just to fill the evening. The following are photos of winners of door
prizes and of Glenda and I as well as Dieter and Colleen.
August 18, 2004, Toronto, We visited the
"Embers"
Dance Club on Wednesday at 7.30pm This is a 100% International Dance
venue. One hour of dance lessons were of the highest quality. After the
lessons both men and women were seen practicing what they learned on their own.
Men with their hands up in the air gliding around the room . That's dedication.
And some day they will be champions. The dance floor was very very smooth and
large (top quality) The music of course was all international strict
tempo. .I and Glenda danced till 10.30pm. There were about 200 dancers. Mostly
singles but also couples. Yet, it was not crowded to dance. Helen Choi was
displaying her shoes at this dance as well. coffee, water and ice were free with admission.
They have dances every Wednesday and Sunday. See their listing under "Toronto
South East". .
