often for their Tea Dances which are held every Wednesday at 12.30. They usually
have approximately 200 singles and couples
at these dances which are popular for the seniors ranging in ages from 50 up to

during the week in an enjoyable atmosphere and companionship. .

February 18, 2005, The Old Mill,
Toronto ( SW ), The Old Mills historic background, ( Go to the
HISTORY Web site) is
known for its quality for that very special evening out. I have visited this
club many many times over the years past and can say that each visit, having had
dinner and dancing for the evening, has made me want to return. This time was no
different. The warmth shown by both the General Manager Gilles Corpart and
Joseph Youssef the Dining Room Manager who placed us at our table by the
dance floor, the efficiency of the staff assisting us in our seating and
immediately asking if we would like water and or wine but making us feel that
there was all the time in the world. That was how this enjoyable dinning and
dancing evening went by. The band played beautifully and of course just loud
enough so that we could still speak at the table without bending toward each
other. We danced to all the standard social and latin steps they played with a
very good variety of tempos. Even though the dining room was filled, there were
only a few couples on the large wooden dance floor, which was wonderful. We
could dance without bumping into other people and still do all our fancy
stepping. Looking up from the dance floor the second floor can be seen with
railings protecting the diners in that section. The room is old english in
design with heavy dark stained wood.
In addition to the dance band a smaller jazz group played in an adjoining
section of the Inn where you could just sit and listen to soft music being
played on a base vile and a guitar. This is a quiet relaxing spot for lovers to
have a drink and talk. Though these rooms are apart, you can still attend both
locations during the evening.
So , if you are looking for an evening of dinner and dancing with class, make
sure you visit this location. You will never, never forget it. I haven't and you
will not.

January 30, 2005, Toronto ( South West ),
Harbourfront Centre, Toronto All Star Big Band, It was a
pleasure to visit this Toronto waterfront location where 24 young musicians,
mostly in their 20s, played tunes from the 30s and 40s. I'm sure it
brought back many pleasant memories to the dancers who danced to Fox Trots,
Swing and Latins. It is really a joy to hear and dance to a live band rather
than recordings. At times, as many as 5 young men and women sang to the
favorites played by the band.
The dance floor is terrazzo. but surprisingly smooth and easy to dance on. The
large uncovered windows surrounding the room made you feel you were partly
outside as well. The event was extremely well attended with all ages being
present. Refreshments and food were available, at the cafe next door,
during the 3 hour program. This band will be playing again on
April 3, 2005 at the same location.. This
is one you should not miss. Book early to reserve your table. Please enter
their Web Site..

January 28, 2005, Toronto ( South West ),
Toronto Swing Dance Society,
We visited this very active swing dance
organization at their temporary facility in the Lithuanian House at 1573 Bloor
St. W. We met a group of about 120 (mostly singles) very
enthusiastic dancers. At this club they always start the evening with
dance lessons which are included in the entrance fee. On this night
they had a very capable teacher from
www.luluhop.com named Arthur (photo below), along with his assistant, teaching beginner
Lindy. During the evening a very good mix of various tempo swing music was
played to which you could, in some cases, do either a fox trot or a swing. Of
course many of the dancers were practicing their newly learned Lindy steps. A
few West Coast Swing tunes were also played. There were no free refreshments or
light food of any kind, but there is a bar on another floor of the
building where you can purchase some refreshments.
The clothes worn by the dancers were generally street clothes with some jeans; all very appropriate to this style of dancing. It was brought to our attention
that the dance on Feb 11th would be in a much larger room and that East
Coast Swing would be taught by Lynn. Many of the young people
attending were taking lessons for their very first time. This is a good place to start
to learn swing dancing, with such a friendly group. They have a
great policy in this organization in requiring dancers not to refuse when asked
to dance. There is a lot of mixing, mingling and a lot of fun.

January 15, 2005, Toronto ( South West ), Lulu
Lounge, This is one of the most active, busy Latin clubs that we
have visited. From 300 to 400 singles and couples on the floor and at the tables
who could not have been more happily entertained by the large Latin band that
played music that you could not sit down to while it was playing . All you could
see is this mass of men and women swaying and moving rhythmically with every
beat of the music. When we arrived ( about 9.30pm.) there must have been 150
persons on the floor, all taking dance lessons from a teacher who could be heard
very clearly on the microphone with her instructions to have the participants
move the way she wanted them to. They were learning new Latin dance steps. It
was wonderful to see so many wanting to learn, mostly in there mid 30s but also
quite a number of older folks. The dance floor is set lower down in the
center of the hall with railings on either side behind which there were tables
for the guests to relax when not dancing. This location is worth the cost
just to get the feel of enthusiasm in the hall. While we were there we danced ,
salsa, cha cha and bachata. We had a great time. Like the majority of
salsa clubs, the volume of the noise was higher than we personally appreciate
and, if you are concerned about your hearing, we suggest that invest
in a pair of ear plugs. The young energetic servers were working hard to
keep up the demands of the clientele. Over all, this locations staff and
the dancers were very warm and friendly.

January 15, 2005, Toronto ( South West ),
Sant. Eufemia Restaurant & Lounge, We
think that this club is really something special with a manager owner "Battisto
Butera" who is out to please you. With recent changes, this restaurant and
dance club has got the best of everything. A good size dance floor which will
hold at least 40 to 50 couples. Soft lighting for those loving couples. Tables
to seat 5 to 8 persons. Music played by a disk jockey who could never be equaled
for quality of selection, singing expertise in Italian and Latin songs with a
variety at his finger tips that would never be dull for any dancer wanting to
dance to the very best selections, .as well as just to listen to all the
Latin tunes including some up to date social music. You will want to discover
this DJ who's name is Max Conti, who arrived recently from Italy and
is making a name for himself as a first class entertainer and DJ. A one man band
with all his electronic equipment. This club is open for dancing on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Park your car in a well lighted parking lot right
next to the club. There is no cover charge, No entry charge. No service charges.
Just buy your drinks and food at the lowest prices and you have it made for a
beautiful dancing evening.

January 8, 2005, Toronto (SW) Golden Lion
Restaurant and Bar,
Located at 15 Cammotor Ave. ( South of the Queensway ) in Etobicoke, The only
way I can describe the appearance of this night club is "Luxurious". The decor
is outstanding White table clothes covered the candle lit dining tables on an
elevated floor on both sides of a large smooth parquet dance floor Well dressed
waiters, who spoke Ukrainian plus English, served the dancers at their tables.
There were singles and couples in the club with more single men than single
ladies who at times formed circles to do folk type dances. The club caters more
to the European crowd. The music, which was a little loud, was played by a
small Ukrainian band along with a DJ who played Hustle / Disco music mixed
in with latin as well as fox trots, polkas and waltzes.
We spent most of the evening in the night club. But they also have other rooms
for small and large gatherings where other bands were playing at the same time
for special functions.. You should always call to check as to what is going on
for any particular
weekend. It was just starting to get busy as we were leaving at 11.30pm. The
food was excellent and very attractively presented. A very extensive menu was
shown , however a few items were not available. If your background is Ukrainian
and if you want to add some flavour into your life, then this is a place
not to miss.

August 28, 2004, Toronto
(SW), Old Mill, Memories are Made and Rekindled at the Old Mill, I am
always amazed how for 50 years of dining and dancing at the Mill I wonder at the
beauty of this beautiful dining room and ballroom. The food and service
have always been excellent. The music has always been very acceptable for
a quiet evening of dancing. Our friends Joe and Audry and my very good
dance partner Glenda enjoyed themselves immensely.
From here at 11.30pm.Glenda and I stopped into
La Brisas in Hamilton. We had about another hour of dancing to
Bachatas,
Merengues and Salsas. There must have been 300 dancers on the floor and in
the room. Had a beautiful time all evening.
