July 17, 2005, Depew , Buffalo, NY, Hearthstone Manor
with dance teacher Jackie George. An excellent turnout this sunday
evening. Location is excellent with a large wood dance floor. Liquid
refreshments were available at a bar at reasonable cost. The music was a 3 pc
band playing all the old 40s and 50s tunes playing a good mixture of social with
extra latins. Jackie
provided free dance lessons with entry to the dance. These photos will tell the
story. Photos supplied by Anthony Form,Click Here to see

May 28, 2005, Kenmore , Buffalo, NY, Brounshidle Post
with dance teacher Jackie George. This was the scene of a
very successfully run dance which began with free dance lessons. Jackie George
has proven that it can be done. The very large turnout on this night must make
her realize how well she is known and liked as a dance teacher in the local
dance industry. Everyone reflected the joy that comes from dancing in an
atmosphere of positive feelings. A large group of enthusiastic beginners enjoyed
the cha cha lessons, joined by some experienced dancers who wanted to learn more
from her teachings. This location has an excellent wooden floor. The large
round tables, which seat 6 to 8 persons at each, were full. There were no empty
seats, yet there was lots of room to dance in this legion hall. The live band
"Ron Parnella", which was on a stage above the dancers, played all the
older 40s to 60s music that we love to dance to, which included a variety of
latins as well as standard social music. So that the dancers who visit this web
site will know more about Jackie, I have copied articles about her that have
appeared in various local news papers. These articles can be read by clicking on
the thumbnails below..

January 16, 2005, Buffalo, Hamlin House
Ballroom, Obviously one of the most exhilarating
atmospheres you could ever imaging or want. In a ballroom which is located in a
building with historic records back to 1820. You can only imagine being in a
very large elaborate room that you would normally only see in some old western
movie with chandeliers and second floor railings. Yet here were a group of
dancers with partners being thrown over their backs and jumping to the beautiful
sounds of high powered swing Some even dressed in the 1930-40 zoot suite
style clothes.. A room full of dancers. It really is
too bad that I could not somehow have had a movie and sound track to show this
event. The dance that they were doing is called "Lindy". Both Glenda and I
do a small lindy step in the swing style we do that resembles Lindy. But nothing
like what this room full of dancers were doing. The wooden floor was very good.
Dance lessons are provided free with entry. There is bar service. but no food is
available. Mostly young persons but all ages were there. Some of the dancers had
been at the Hamilton, Ontario - Mt Hope dance earlier this year.
Injected between some of the Lindy music were some cha cha, salsa, rumba, fox
trots and some slow swing for the older crowd. There was not one unhappy looking
person in that crowd. They were all very energetic and smiling.
The Hamilin House is managed
by the "American Legion". located at 432 Franklin Street in downtown Buffalo. ( Located
in the Historic Allentown District ).

May 21, 2004, A Rochester friend and I visited a
night club known as "Salvatore's" for dinner and dancing. The club is
located on Transit road in Depew. Here are my comments about this very
beautiful Club. The decor, the lighting was excellent. The staff very very
courteous and attentive, The dinner served was excellent but beware. cost for
two will be over $100.00 without a bottle of wine. ( I don't drink liquor )
The music was much too loud for my taste. It should have been soft and
seductive but was quite the opposite. The 4pc band did not play one rumba which
normally is the very opposite to a top quality band. One tune during the 4 hours
we were there was one to which we could do a slow cha cha, but not one other
latin was played. It sounded more like a jazz band rather than a band that you
would expect in such a beautiful location during dinner. Obviously this is not
the fault of the band but managements choice of the band or music that they
should play. The band itself in another location would be great, playing
what they did. But we still had a very beautiful evening trying to hear
each other during the loud music. Those are my comments and I am sure that there
were others there that would disagree with me. And by the way, there was lots of
room to dance on the small floor. Does that tell you something !.
