Message from Tony
I have been dancing since the age of 12. And in all those years I have had more enjoyment out of swing dancing than any other single style of dance. The only other dance, now in my senior years that gives me enjoyment is the slow sexual rythm produced by a band playing soft latin rumbas and moving to the music in a quite atmosphere with your special someone.  But real movement and enjoyment comes from SWING. And it is what the young enjoy the most. So, I will be placing Links and articles about Swing into this section. So please, if you have any items that are outstaning and you want to contribute towards teaching the young. Send them to me. PLEASE.

On the evening of January 5th., we visited the Odd Socks ( Swing Toronto ) aslo known as "Dovercourt House Ballroom", where, for young or old ,  the  atmosphere makes you want to dance.  What impresses most is the comradery of the dancers, young and old moving from partner to partner. Older, experienced swingers leading the younger and catching their energy. Ages ranged from 20's to 80's . Men asked women to dance and women asked men to dance, often with just a lift of their hand and they met on the floor  Where else and in what other sport can you find this atmosphere of companionship and enjoyment? A live 4 pc Swing Band known as the Shannon Butcher Swing Band  played many of our old favourites both fast and slow. When the band took their break, our host Simon acted as DJ. At the start of the evening  Simon taught swing lessons,  FREE to those who paid to get into the dance. They lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes, until about 9:30. Such value received for your hard earned dollars. At the beginning of the lesson the men were on one side and ladies on the other side of the hall (but not for too long); they got right down to the fun, joining into couples and forming a circle around the middle of the room, after each instruction the couples practised together, then the ladies moved on to the next partner and the next instruction. Great way to meet new people to dance with later on in the dance!! Yummy snacks were put out on a long counter where you could graze, if you so desired. The bar was open and the coffee was very good.When a slow dance was played we did not see even one couple closed as one, but just  moving as one to the music.  That was wonderful to see clean healthy sport in this crowd of dancers.
